CityStream: One kayaker’s mission to map thousands of miles of Puget Sound shoreline
12/30/20256:36
Being on the waters of Puget Sound has always been Brian Footen’s happy place. Now, with support from the State of Washington, he turns that passion into purpose. Footen takes on the formidable task of mapping all 2,500 miles of the Sound’s shoreline, tracking human impact and the effects of climate change. The work demands long days in a kayak and a narrow window of weather and seasons to collect the data. He hopes his journey inspires others to care more deeply about how we treat the Puget Sound. “Without healthy waterways,” he says, “we cannot exist.” Video by Randy Eng
