Ribbon-cutting ceremony of MEXART 2025: Migration & Belonging
Ribbon-cutting ceremony of MEXART 2025: Migration & Belonging
9/26/202512:08

Born from Mayor Bruce Harrell’s Many Hands Art Initiative and carried out in collaboration with the One Seattle Graffiti Team, the project transforms the Campus Parkway corridor in Seattle’s University District into a living gallery. At a time when migration is too often discussed without the voices of migrants themselves, these murals stand as a bold and lasting act of visibility, community, and cultural pride. For the next two years, the installation will remain as an open-air gallery, inviting thousands of passersby to stop, reflect, and connect with the narratives inscribed on its walls. MEXART is more than an art project: it is a collaborative effort between artists, the City of Seattle, and the Consulate of Mexico to center authentic voices, amplify creativity, and celebrate resilience across generations.

AP Diaz, Superintendent, Seattle Parks & Recreation
Héctor Godoy Priske, Head Consul, Mexican Consulate in Seattle
